My wife Sue has been undergoing some pretty serious medical treatment of late, so a week ago we had a short six day break in our caravan, which we took down to West Bay in Dorset.
The highlight of the trip was her first ever UK boat trip on board Dawn Mist, which operates out of the harbour there and can be seen on the recent edition of River Cottage Spring.
The trip was only for three hours and therefore limited to the inshore reefs in Lyme Bay; but was well worthwhile and therapeutic for her. On the first drift she managed a male Cuckoo Wrasse of just under a pound and that made it up for her. This was followeed by a succession of Flobbers (Pouting), up to two pound, all of which we returned, apart from a couple of deep hooked fish that were given to another angler on the boat, who was going to Barbecue them ??? Well each to his own I suppose.
I was using a new 12lb class outfit for the first time and was well impressed you could even feel the Flobbers put up a scrap in the tide.
Was it good I should think so, she wants another trip in August after Pollack and Bream I might even get her out in the Thames with my usual skipper. _________________ You tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is, never try. |
